Nova Vida is a friendly Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) club situated in Huddersfield. Established in 1998, Instructors Andrew Williams (Brown Belt), Andrew Farrell (Purple Belt), Michael Lyn (Purple Belt) have trained children and adults in the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for ten years. The club is affiliated with the Ricardo Mattos BJJ club in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting with the goal of gaining a dominant position and using joint locks and chokeholds to force an opponent to submit. Nova Vida (meaning New Life in portuguese) promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using leverage and proper technique can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger person.
Having just moved to a new purpose built academy the experienced coaches now offer a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) class as well as beginners and advanced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu sessions .
